You have no hope of salvation if you do not know the truth that.

And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved) [Eph.2:1- 6] กก

But Jesus said unto him, Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead. And when he was entered into a ship, his disciples followed him.[Matt. 8:22,23]

There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another. (1 Cor.15:40

So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption: It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power: It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven. As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly. And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.

Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord. (1 Cor.42:58)

And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. (Gen 2:16,17)

In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou {art}, and unto dust shalt thou return.(Gen 3:19)

God made man with the dust of the earth and the body of man was therefore natural. However, God after He made(created) a garden at the east of Eden He put the man there and then the body of man became spiritual since the newly created garden was not natural but spiritual. Then Men in the garden of Eden sinned in spite of the warning of the words of God and returned to the former state of natural body as the result. Men have lost their first condition of heavenly state and become earthy having mortal bodies as the natural bodies of this earth. This is the meaning of the above statement of the apostle Paul.

The Lord Jesus said we are the dead.  It is because we have put on this body of mortality.  Of course we are sinners and spiritually dead and besides this our bodies also are mortal, earthy and natural, which means "frail", that is, "weak" according to Paul's statement above.  owing to this weakness of our body we do not know what shall come tomorrow to make our bodies useless and powerless in death. Because of our mortality in our body even we do not know what we shall become after an hour. Killed or maimed in an accident?  We do not know at all. Therefore we have put on death.  Death is not far away, it may be at the threshold.

God may say to one of us at any moment, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? (Lk.12:16-21)

This is the kind of life we now live on the earth and at this very moment. The life of the dead. The life of mortality. This kind of life may fit for the animals which do not have souls and have no longing for eternity but to us human beings who have souls and spirits none other than the tragedy of death.
